Paddy McCarthy to take charge of Crystal Palace for Arsenal clash

Paddy McCarthy will take charge of Crystal Palace’s first team for Sunday’s Premier League fixture at Arsenal.

McCarthy – current U21 manager at Selhurst Park – made 151 appearances during his time at the club as a player.

The Eagles sacked Patrick Vieira on Friday morning following a 1-0 defeat away to arch-rivals Brighton on Wednesday.

Palace are the only Premier League side without a win in 2023 and sit three points above the relegation zone.

He will be assisted by Darren Powell after Vieira’s backroom staff – assistant manager Osian Roberts and first-team coaches Kristian Wilson and Said Aigoun – were also dismissed.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side are top of the Premier League table by five points and have won their last five outings in the top flight.

Vieira, 46, leaves the club after joining in July 2021 and taking charge of the Eagles 74 times in all competitions.
