Non-league round-up: Bromley progress in FA Trophy but Dulwich Hamlet out as former Crystal Palace man makes first start for Gavin Rose’s side
Bromley had to come from behind to progress in the FA Trophy – securing a 2-1 win over Sutton United on Saturday.
The Ravens had a number of first-teamers missing due to injury and fell behind when Brandon Thomas-Asante finished off a pass from former Charlton and Millwall midfielder Nicky Bailey.
The home side’s best chance of the opening 45 minutes fell to JJ Hooper, but the debutant could only head Frankie Raymond’s free-kick wide.
But the on-loan Grimsby Town striker did find the target as Bromley’s second-half pressure told. Hooper nodded in Raymond’s corner kick on the hour mark.
And the Ravens quickly added a second. George Porter heading home after a set-piece routine by Raymond and Frankie Sutherland.
Sutherland tried his luck from distance and forced Sutton keeper Jamie Butler to tip around his post.
Jake Goodman and Jack Holland had to make last-ditch blocks after Bromley keeper David Gregory dropped the ball under pressure from Darren McQueen.
Dulwich Hamlet are out of the same competition after a 2-0 loss to Wingate & Finchley.
Magnus Okuonghae and Michael Chambers were missing due to injury. Former Crystal Palace attacker Jason Banton was handed his first start.
Some excellent defending somehow prevented the home side taking the lead in the 10th minute.
But Hamlet were behind on 27 minutes. Ashley Carew conceded a free-kick and Layne Eadie’s floated delivery was turned in by Rob Laney.
Banton had two close-range efforts blocked as Dulwich tried to mount a response before the break.
Home keeper Shane Gore saved from Carew, who also smashed a chance over.
Laney struck on the counter-attack to make it 2-0 on 60 minutes.
Carew had another effort saved after a scramble in the box with substitute Jay May narrowly wide with a spectacular volley.
Tooting & Mitcham’s match at Molesey in the Isthmian League South Central Division was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch.
Greenwich Borough were 2-0 up at home to Three Bridges in Isthmian League South East Division but had to settle for a 2-2 draw. Reece Deakin and Ryan King-Elliott scored their goals in the opening 36 minutes at the DGS Marine Stadium.
Table-topping Fisher smashed six past Crowborough Athletic on Saturday in the SCEFL Premier Division.
Trey Small got two of the goals with Rob Brown, Mudiagha Wanogho, Kush Campbell-Palmer and Dan Flemming also on the scoresheet.
The Fish are a point ahead of Beckenham Town but have played a fixture less.
James Fotheringham opened the scoring for Croydon but they lost 2-1 at Bearsted.
Third-placed Kennington were 3-0 victors over Welling Town in the SCEFL First Division.
Gary Lockyer, Joe Fisher and an own goal completed their scoring.
