Bromley’s Billy “The Kid” Jackson wins second professional boxing bout

Billy “The Kid” Jackson made sure he maintained his perfect record as he outpointed Lee Hallett at the weekend.

The Bromley welterweight is 2-0 in the paid ranks.

Jackson made his debut at the Brentwood Centre last month as he won on points against Dylan Draper (0-21).

And the 19-year-old followed up last Friday with another distance victory. Opponent Hallett saw his record drop to 0-12. Jackson has a promotional deal with MTK Global.

The teenager boxed internationally as an amateur – representing England against the Cayman Islands and winning gold at the Hvidovre Cup in Denmark. He is trained by his dad Darren and former English champion Ryan Barrett.

Since growing disillusioned with the unpaid game he had spells in the Queensbury Boxing League, GBBU and UKBC.

“Billy came from a Thai boxing background and the way he fights suits the pro style,” said Jackson Snr. “The Queensbury Boxing League was a step back, rather than forward although he did box at national level.

“His career was going nowhere. He didn’t want to go back to the amateurs, so let’s see what you can do in the pro ranks – either that or just stop.

“The guy he had at the weekend was an awkward southpaw and a step up on his last opponent. These guys are journeymen but it is the kind of challenges you have at the start as a prospect.

“He floored the first guy he fought in the opening round. He is learning and hopefully we’ll get some stoppages behind us.

“We probably want seven four rounders and then go up to six and eight rounds after that – then you’re ready to challenge for the Southern Area or English title.”

Jackson is set to be in action on February 23 and March 9.
