‘You’re right’ – Dons boss agrees with statement over defender’s performance against Walsall

AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson agreed that Aaron Pierre’s performance in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Walsall was the defender’s best since joining the club.

The 30-year-old started alongside Will Nightingale and helped the Dons secure their first win in 11 and their first clean sheet since the 0-0 draw with Northampton on February 14.

Pierre – who played 90 minutes for Grenada in their 7-1 defeat to the USA on Saturday in the Concacaf Nations League – played the full 90 minutes against Walsall on Tuesday, winning five battles and making four clearances.

“Aaron has been getting stronger with every game for us,” Jackson told the South London Press.

“He has come in without playing a lot of football, so obviously he’s not going to be razor sharp in terms of his fitness.

“You’re right – tonight was probably his best performance so far. That has continued the trend that he is getting up to speed.

“He’s had a tough week – a really tough game for him in tough conditions against the USA and then a long flight back.

“He was pretty tired yesterday when he got back to us, but we had a good chat – I knew he would be ready.

“He was a bit knackered after the game, but we will look after him between now and the weekend.”

The former Wycombe and Northampton defender signed a short-term deal with the Dons in the January window until the end of the season.

“Everyone is playing for something,” added Jackson.

“Are you trying to earn a contract? Are you trying to earn a move? There is motivation all the time.

“Aaron has come in, looking to impress, and he has looked stronger and stronger every game.”
