‘We have to ruffle some feathers’ – Millwall boss Rowett gives verdict on Championship play-off race after point at West Brom

Gary Rowett reckons his Millwall side “have to ruffle a few feathers” if they want to achieve their Championship play-off target.

The Lions are fifth in the table with seven matches to go after a 0-0 draw at promotion rivals West Bromwich Albion today.

West Brom came into the contest knowing a win would mean they had the chance to jump above the South Londoners if they won their match in hand.

But the draw – Millwall’s 10th of the season – means the Baggies are still five points behind.

Blackburn’s 1-0 defeat at Birmingham saw them slip below Rowett’s side.

“I’ll be honest, I’ve not seen the results,” said the Lions boss as he conducted post-match duties in the West Midlands. “I’ve not seen the table. Someone said we are fifth, but I have no idea what the numbers [are].

“We are where we are because we’ve worked incredibly hard to be where we are.

“We are where we are because 2,200 of our fans follow us and as a club we are trying to do something together in a really positive way and we are working really hard.

“Also we understand what we are – we have to ruffle a few feathers.

“We come to West Brom and we’ve got to put a few tackles in. We’ve got to get people complaining about stuff – because that’s the game.

“But Cressy gets an elbow in the face with 30 seconds to go, but who cares? It’s the game, it’s the Championship, it’s an attritional league and it’s a physical league.

“We’ve worked hard to be where we are. There’s seven games left. I don’t think you’re going to be out of touch, I don’t think you are going to be miles off teams and sitting pretty with three games to go. We’ve got to just keep chalking up points.”
