Roy Hodgson reveals how many wins he would like from Palace’s remaining nine Premier League games

Roy Hodgson says Crystal Palace need to win three of their remaining nine outings to have “half a chance” of Premier League safety.

The Eagles picked up their first win of 2023 on Saturday after beating fellow relegation candidates Leicester City 2-1 at Selhurst Park.

Palace are on 30 points – five clear of the relegation zone – and still have to play Leeds, Everton, Southampton and Bournemouth.

Hodgson – in his first game since taking over from Patrick Vieira until the end of the season – ended Palace’s run of four straight Premier League defeats.

The Eagles snatched all three points against the Foxes with the last kick of the game, thanks to Jean-Philippe Mateta’s strike.

“We have got to get wins – there is no doubt about that,” the Palace boss said.

“We have to win three of those nine to give ourselves half a chance.

“It doesn’t sound much when you say win just three out of nine, but as we all know, you can go on very, very long runs when you don’t win.

“That’s not just us – that’s other teams as well.

“It would be foolish of us to think we can do any relaxing at all.

“If we had lost this game, you would be thinking: ‘Blimey, that’s a game you should have won comfortably,” that’s when the difficulty starts of getting people going again in terms of training.

“We can be as hard as we like next week and be as tough as we like because we’re doing it on the back of a good result and the players feeling good about themselves.”
