New book release Dylan the Dyslexic bookworm for children with learning disabilities

A new book in a series that helps children with learning disabilities is set to be released today.

Pauline Atkins, 57 from Bermondsey Street, near London Bridge, has already written and published Dylan the Dyslexic bookworm for the series and will be releasing Cressida Ladybug has Dyscalculia.

Mrs Atkins was a child of the 1960s grew up in a large family facing socio-economic challenges.

She understood from an early age how important it was to learn to read and write, as her own father was unable to do either.

She started writing children’s books 11 years ago but was unable to find an agent or publishing house that was interested. She decided to self-publish.

Her most recent books focus on the life experiences of her families who are neurodiverse.

Mrs Atkins said: “I have had so many people coming back to me to say how much they love the books and how much it has helped them. It’s such an uplifting feeling, it gives me a real buzz.

“I see learning difficulties as a gift not a disability. It’s a gift because they don’t think along the same boring pathways that a normal person does.”
