Fulham striker Mitrovic slapped with eight-game suspension

Aleksandar Mitrovic is unavailable to Fulham until May 13 after being slapped with an eight-game ban for his conduct at Manchester United.

The Serbian striker was dismissed in the second half of the Whites’ FA Cup quarter-final defeat.

But there is further punishment for his reaction towards official Chris Kavanagh after the official sent off Willian for handballing and preventing a United goal.

Mitrovic started his suspension by sitting out the Premier League loss at AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.

And now an independent commission have added a further five matches to the three-game ban the frontman would normally have served. He has also been told to pay a £75,000 fine.

“We claimed the standard punishment which would otherwise apply to Aleksandar Mitrovic for the sending-off offence of violent conduct that he committed towards the match referee around the 72nd minute was clearly insufficient,” said the FA in a statement. “The forward denied this, but it was upheld by the regulatory commission, and a three-match ban was imposed. This is in addition to the three-match ban he had already received for the red card offence.”

Fulham boss Marco Silva has also been handed a two-match suspension and two £20,000 fines – one for his dismissal and also for media comments made after the match.

Fulham have been fined £40,000 for not preventing their players from surrounding the referee.
