‘It doesn’t look brilliant’ – Millwall boss on Murray Wallace injury setback but Barnsley loanee set to return

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has admitted “it doesn’t look good” in relation to Murray Wallace’s quad injury.

The experienced Lions left-back came off in the opening stages of Saturday’s 2-0 win over Preston North End.

Millwall are back in action tomorrow with another Den date, this time against Birmingham City.

“It doesn’t look great,” Rowett told the South London Press. “The medical team looked at the weekend and it doesn’t look brilliant. We’re expecting bad news on that one.

“What it does is just leaves us a little bit light at the moment. It’s no problem when it comes to the starting 11, but it means you’re starting to get a little light on options, certainly defensively.”

Scott Malone is in line to make his first start for the Lions in the league since the 0-0 draw against Hull City on November 5.

Callum Styles is set to be back in Millwall’s squad. The Barnsley loanee had been out with a quad problem since the start of February.

Midfielder George Honeyman is not expected to feature again this season.

He suffered a hamstring injury against his former club Hull City earlier this month and looks set to have shoulder surgery.

“I think he had a dislocation of the shoulder at some stage – he’s had some issues when he lands funny,” said Rowett. “He feels a lot of pain for a minute or two but because he is a tough cookie he cracks on with it.

“Because of the timescale of his injury, it is something we’ve been looking at potentially getting done in the summer – so we might as well try and get that done as well. He is going to be out for probably six weeks, so we might as well get both done at the same time and he won’t miss any extra time.

“It sounds a bit of a weird one but you get it with players occasionally, where they are struggling with something and they manage it. Then they get an injury and it almost gives them a chance to manage both injuries.”
