Dean Holden asked about Marc Spiegel’s Charlton Athletic takeover

Dean Holden is hoping any pending takeover of Charlton Athletic will bring “clarity”.

The South London Press understands that US businessman Marc Speilgel, who is fronting the consortium, is aiming to complete his takeover of the club tomorrow.

Current owner Thomas Sandgaard, who purchased the club in September 2020, looks set to relinquish all control of the Addicks and will not retain any stake once Spiegel’s takeover has been completed.

“It’s difficult for me to comment – I don’t know the details behind the scenes,” Holden told the South London Press.

“There is a lot of stories in the media, which I have not seen a lot of, to be honest.

“I was at the U21 game last night at Dartford – a brilliant win for our U21s to get through to the final of the London Senior Cup.

“My focus has been on this Port Vale game.

“I have been made aware of some things which have been circulating in the media, and ultimately I’m not the spokesperson for that.

“All I would say is that there has been a lot of uncertainty around this club for a long time. And the supporters are getting more and more frustrated in terms of wanting answers and knowing which way the club is moving and the direction of the future.

“It’s probably a little bit easier in certain parts of the season to ignore that and to get on with the work. I’m talking now outside of the transfer windows, that’s your squad and the game programme is in front to focus on.

“Now is the stage of the season where if you can get clarity, the better it is for everybody.

“We’re now moving into May next week. The end of the season is right upon us, and more and more players are being made aware to us.

“We need to know now, in terms of budget and those types of things, which way we want to go next season.

“The quicker that can get sorted, the better for everybody – the staff, players and supporters.

“Everybody concerned with Charlton Athletic, we want to get some good news around this football club.

“It’s been too long now where there have been some negatives and a lot to talk about way from the pitch. The quicker this gets sorted, I’m sure everybody will be happy.

“We have plans in place – we have been working for a period of time now in terms of recruitment.

“It’s obviously a big part of the season for us.

“I’m sure the guys wanting to invest in the club are excited. Thomas himself, who I have spoken to on a number of occasions, will just want to get this sorted as quickly as possible, but obviously in the right possible way as well.

“As soon as we get all of this off-the-pitch speculation put to bed, it will be better for everyone.”
