‘Deserved to win’ – Dons boss on 1-1 draw with Tranmere

AFC Wimbledon manager Johnnie Jackson believed that his side’s performance “deserved” to win in their 1-1 draw with Tranmere Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

The Dons came close to opening the scoring in the 65th minute when Ali Al-Hamadi had a shot blocked on the line following a goalmouth scramble.

Al-Hamadi eventually put the Dons ahead three minutes later when Ethan Chislett played through the Iraqi forward, who bundled his 10th of the season beyond Mateusz Hewelt.

Tranmere equalised in the 79th minute through substitute Sam Taylor.

The Dons ended their run of three straight defeats and stayed 21st in the League One table.

“It was quite a close game but I thought we deserved to win,” said the Dons boss.

“We had the better chances overall. We scored a really good goal.

“I was a bit disappointed with their goal. I’m not disappointed with them, but our lad was down injured and allowed them an opportunity down that side, which under different circumstances, they wouldn’t have got.

“It sums up our luck that they have gone and scored from that situation. I don’t think they had too many chances on the day.

“We could have had a couple more. It wasn’t a totally one-sided game, but we were the team in the ascendancy and probably deserved to win.

“But we didn’t quite get it.”
