Johnnie Jackson assesses Leicester City loanee’s AFC Wimbledon spell

Johnnie Jackson has praised Kasey McAteer’s work ethic as the young midfielder’s loan spell at AFC Wimbledon draws to a close.

McAteer joined the Dons in the winter window on a six-month loan deal from Premier League side Leicester City.

The 21-year-old, who scored his first goal in professional football in the 3-2 defeat to Salford City, has featured 18 times under Johnnie Jackson.

Former Forest Green loanee McAteer played the full 90 minutes in Wimbledon’s 1-0 win against Stockport this afternoon.

“Kasey is a player I really like,” said the Dons boss.

“His ability is there for all to see, but he has a real versatility about him in the positions he can play.

“A wonderful attitude to his work. He wants to work hard and improve. When you are looking at loanees, that’s the type you want.

“He was desperate to get out and play football in January – he didn’t just want to sit at Leicester and play U23s football.

“He had a taste of it at Forest Green last season, and he wanted more of that.

“If you are going to dip into that market, you want hungry types who come out and are desperate to play.

“Kasey has shown that.”
