Woman killed after stabbing in Brixton formally named as family release tribute
A 31-year-old woman who was stabbed to death by a stranger in Brixton has been formally named.
Johanita Kossiwa Dogbey was stabbed to death in broad daylight reportedly while on the phone to her grandmother as she walked along Stockwell Park Walk on Monday afternoon.
Ms Dogbey was approached from behind by a man at around 4pm and attacked.
Police say there is no information to suggest the victim and the man were known to each other.
Two days after the incident, residents of the area were still in shock.
A neighbour close to the family described how Ms Dogbey’s grandmother heard a “terrible scream” before she heard the phone hit the floor at the time of the attack.
Ms Dogbey, reportedly the founder of a charity that helped people suffering with sickle cell disease, was on her way to a birthday celebration at her flat where she lives with her mother, father, brother and sister.
Johanita’s family have now released a tribute to her.
They said: “We are devastated by the news of the passing of our daughter.
“Johanita was a smart, dedicated, and loving girl who always helped anyone. She hasn’t got one bad bone in her body. She wouldn’t hurt a fly.
“We can’t believe a senseless crime like this has happened as we can’t imagine who would do this to her.
“Our hearts are completely broken and will not understand why someone would take our beautiful girl away from us. She will forever be in our hearts as we will carry on living life as gracefully and beautifully as she did.”
In Stockwell Park Walk yesterday a man shouted out to a police officer at the scene of a car crash which happened two days after the incident in the same road. He said: “What’s happened? Now this, someone only got stabbed here two days ago. What is going on?”
Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, local policing commander for Lambeth, said: “This is a shocking attack and my thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends as they come to terms with this awful news. We will do everything we can to support them at this incredibly difficult time.
“I recognise the considerable concern this incident has caused and I’d like to reassure you that a dedicated team of detectives are carrying out a number of enquiries and additional officers are in the area to respond to any concerns from members of the community.”
A post mortem took place yesterday, formal identification is yet to be confirmed.
