Former Palace midfielder becomes assistant boss at League Two side

Former Crystal Palace midfielder Neil Danns has been named as the assistant manager of League Two side Tranmere Rovers.

Danns – who will assist Ian Dawes at Prenton Park – had a spell with Rovers in 2019-20, making 24 appearances in all competitions.

He landed his first permanent coaching role in January, taking over at North West Counties Football League side Macclesfield Town.

The 40-year-old led the Silkmen to promotion to the Northern Premier League as champions during his stint in charge.

Former Leicester City and Bolton playmaker Danns made 124 appearances at Selhurst Park, scoring 21 goals and recording eight assists.

Danns said: “I’m delighted to be returning to Tranmere.

“I’m at the start of my coaching journey and while I hugely enjoyed my time at Macclesfield and am very grateful for them for giving me my first opportunity in management, I could not miss the opportunity to be part of the team-behind-the-team at Tranmere.”
