The Frock Exchange: Swap instead of shop to beat cost of living crisis

A new sustainable fashion swap pop-up will be hosted later this month to help shoppers with their bills.

The Frock Exchange is an event that also offers people a way of shopping to help save the environment.

The pop-up is a collaboration between Sharon Finch from Kent who owns the sustainable loungewear brand, Hexed, and Lewisham marketing consultant Jane Martin who runs Mother of Pearl Marketing.

The exchange will take place on May 21 between 12pm and 2pm at The Workers League in Royal Parade Mews, Blackheath.

Jade Martin, co-founder of The Frock Exchange said: “With the current cost of living crisis it’s about time that as a community we reflect upon our consumption habits. 

“We are giving the opportunity for local women to swap what they have and give unworn clothes a new lease of life instead of going to waste.

“We are excited to bring our pop up to Blackheath to continue the life cycle of these pre-loved garments”.

Visitors to the pop up will be able to swap up to three items of their unwanted items.

They will receive a “swapping allowance” in exchange for these items, this is their currency to then use to shop the pre-loved edit.

To maintain quality and a curated edit, all clothes for swapping are collected ahead of the event.

Any leftover clothing after the event will be donated to Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice, a local charity with a shop in Blackheath.

It is a ticketed event with a 20 per cent off early bird discount on offer until May 12. Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite.
