New Repair Café coming to Brixton needs volunteers

A Repair Café launching next month is looking for volunteers to help build a sustainable community by reducing waste.

The community-led initiative will be launched in Lambeth, on June 3 in Brixton Road.

Residents will be able to take along anything that is broken including clothing, electrical appliances, musical instruments and bicycles to be fixed by the in-house experts.

Repair Café Lambeth is part of a worldwide initiative made up of 2,500 cafe’s working to decrease waste.

The Lambeth group is currently looking for volunteers who have any kind of repair talent.

The Repair Café is specifically looking for people skilled in clothing and textile repair, electrical appliance repair, bicycle repair, furniture and wooden object repair.

Olga Osuch, spokeswoman for the event said: “Repair Café Lambeth marks the start of an exciting journey towards sustainability and community-building in the area.

“We believe in the power of community and Repair Café Lambeth is a fantastic opportunity for people to come together, learn new skills, and make a difference. 

“It’s something we have needed in the area for a while, but we need everyone’s help to make it a success.

“We invite volunteers to join our community and help us build a more sustainable Lambeth.”
