Lee Bowyer: Ben Purrington played exactly how I expected him to during his Charlton debut

Lee Bowyer said that Ben Purrington’s performance was exactly what he was told it said on the tin.

The left-back had spent the first half of this campaign on loan at AFC Wimbledon from Rotherham, but the Millers recalled the 22-year-old in order to lend them to the Addicks for the rest of the season.

He came straight into the side for Saturday’s 3-0 win at Shrewsbury Town and Bowyer was happy with what the former Plymouth man served up.

“Very good,” he said.

“Ben was solid. Exactly what I got told. He’s going to be a seven every game. Gives that stability down the left-hand-side that we’ve been missing so much.

“He competed. He was getting up and down, giving us the width out-wide. He was very good. He’s only trained a couple of days. He’ll get used more to the way we play.”
