‘I’m concerned for him’ – Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson confirms Wilf Zaha’s injury in Bournemouth win

Roy Hodgson confirmed that Wilfried Zaha was forced off in Crystal Palace’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth with a hamstring injury.

The Ivorian pulled up early in the second half after a sprint towards the penalty area with Bournemouth defender Chris Mepham.

Zaha was forced off in Hodgson’s first game against Leicester City with a hamstring injury, which saw him miss games against Leeds, Southampton, Everton and Wolves.

He was replaced by Odsonne Edouard.

A brace from Eberechi Eze gave Palace all three points against Gary O’Neil’s side.

“I’m concerned for him,” admitted Hodgson.

“We don’t have that many injuries at the moment, so we do have players.

“But I would have liked to have him with me for the last two games as well.

“At the moment, I can’t tell you if that will happen or not. He will have to go for a scan.

“One is always concerned that with hamstring injuries, it will take some sort of time. A week is a short period of time for a hamstring injury, but it’s not impossible with a guy like Wilf – he has fantastic powers of recovery.

“But I couldn’t tell you how long it will take until he has a scan. I could give you a better prognosis if you come to the press conference next week.”

The 30-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season.

“His first-half performance was fantastic,” added Hodgson.

“The people here today – a big home crowd supporting the team – saw Wilf Zaha at his best.

“Not only in terms of his attacking play but his defending and leadership qualities too.

“It was a pity it was only 45 minutes rather than 90 minutes, but it shouldn’t be suggested in any way that it will dent what he’s done for this club.

“I have no idea what Wilf is going to do. My hope, as a Crystal Palace fan, is that he will be here as well.”
