AFC Wimbledon move quickly to draft in defender after Charlton Athletic pounced for their loan left-back

AFC Wimbledon have signed Steve Seddon on loan from Birmingham City – quickly replacing Ben Purrington.
Purrington was recalled by parent club Rotherham United last Thursday and almost instantly signed a fresh loan with Charlton Athletic.
It ramped up the Dons’ attempts to bring in a new left-back. Seddon spent the first half of the campaign with League Two side Stevenage.
Wimbledon boss Wally Downes told the South London Press: “Steve has scored three goals this season, so he is dangerous in the box. It’s helpful knowing he can score a goal at the other end of the pitch.
“He’s a very sharp tackler and will be able to move us up the pitch. He has got a very good left foot. He is what we should be about as a club – young and hungry.
“He wanted to come here and has passed on three or four other clubs because he wants to be taken out of his comfort zone.
“He did half a season at Stevenage and performed very well. They were desperate to keep him. He wants to further his career by going up a division. We’re more than happy to get him in.”
