AFC Wimbledon boss reveals team he thinks is best in League One

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

AFC Wimbledon manager Wally Downes reckons they will be facing the best side in League One on Saturday – with promotion-chasing Barnsley heading to the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

The South Londoners are bottom of the table but there has been an upturn in results and performances since the Dons fans’ favourite replaced Neal Ardley.

“They [Barnsley] are the best team in the division at the moment,” said Downes. “They recruited well and have got in a foreign manager, they play a different way.

“Portsmouth are very functional – they do what they do. They have decent players and are effective.

“But this team [Barnsley] are playing well, moving the ball well and confident.

“We have got to come back and start accumulating points at home. Draws aren’t really great at home even though we are playing a top of the league side. We want to get going and get maximum points in our next two games [home to Fleetwood on Tuesday].”
