Charlton’s G&T strike partnership is just the tonic for boss Lee Bowyer

Charlton Athletic have a G&T frontline which is proving just the tonic for boss Lee Bowyer.
Karlan Grant scored his 13th goal in 27 appearances this season during Saturday’s 3-0 cruise at Shrewsbury Town. And strike partner Lyle Taylor moved on to 15 goals since his summer move from AFC Wimbledon as he got the opener in Shropshire.
“When I’m watching from the side and they are working hard out of possession then they seem to do better for us in possession,” said Bowyer. “I keep telling them that.
“Recently they have been working really hard for the team and getting their rewards. They have formed a very good partnership.
“They have got a bit of everything between the pair of them.
“It shows the relationship they have formed that Lyle allowed Karlan to take the penalty on Saturday because he had missed a few chances before that. That underlines the spirit that is running through the team.
“I spoke to Karlan after the game. Yeah, he missed three one-on-ones – he could’ve had four or at least three goals – but the positive thing is that he is getting in those situations.
He is looking to get in behind the defence and Lyle is looking for him as well.
“It is all right for Karlan to come to the ball and have it played to feet, but his strength is to use his pace.
He can finish as well, so it surprised me that he did miss those chances.”
Charlton have had 11 penalties in the current campaign.
Grant converted his second spot-kick while Taylor has netted five and missed two.
Toby Stevenson and Tariqe Fosu were both successful with their attempts.
“It just shows we have got players who are in the final third a lot and also that they get fouled a lot,” said Bowyer.
“Looking back at matches, I’d say there are another two or three we could’ve had on top of that as well.”
