Former Wimbledon midfielder makes National League South switch

Former AFC Wimbledon midfielder Anthony Wordsworth has joined National League South side Chelmsford City.

Chelmsford finished fifth in the National League South last season, losing in the play-offs to St Albans City.

The 34-year-old midfielder joined the Dons in 2018 and made 56 appearances for the club, scoring six goals and picking up eight assists.

Wordsworth has also had spells at Colchester United, Southend and Barnet.

Chelmsford boss Robie Simpson said: “With Liam Trotter retiring and being such a key player for us last season, we really wanted to try and get experience and leadership in the middle of the pitch.

“We wanted Football League experience as well and he [Anthony] brings a wealth of that.

“He’s a fantastic footballer, he’s a good size and he’s a great character to have in any dressing room, we are absolutely delighted to sign him and bring him to the Clarets, as he’s going to bring a lot to us.”
