Regulars of popular restaurant ‘gutted’ after closure

A popular restaurant has been forced to shut after nearly two decades of serving its community.

Carvaggios was an Italian restaurant in Camberwell Church Street, Camberwell. The dining spot opened just under 20 years ago and had since become a neighbourhood favourite for its atmosphere and friendly staff.

One regular took to Twitter to say: “I always loved sitting in and looking through the large open windows, always had a nice professional vibe.”

Some of Carvaggio’s regulars found out the restaurant would be closing only days before it shut its doors on May 29. Others were not aware until after the eatery had already shut.

Vaughan Bellamy-Williams tweeted: “What ?! Carvaggio is gone … I was there only a couple of weeks ago. Why?!”

Another fan of the restaurant, Tom Tom of Camberwell, tweeted: “Gutted about Caravaggio’s closing.

“I chatted to Fernando and they only had 4 days’ notice.

“They knew they would have to close soon but the deal happened very quickly in the end.

“But it will live on in Fratelli’s in Waterloo.”

Comments below the tweet were filled with regulars expressing their sadness and reminiscing about their past visits.

Nicola Barr tweeted: “Oh no! That’s awful. The nights I’ve had there.”
