Charlton transfer chief linked with QPR role

Charlton Athletic’s director of recruiting Steve Gallen has been linked with a move to Championship side QPR after Les Ferdinand stepped down from his director of football role.

West London Sport have suggested that Gallen is a contender to replace the ex-England striker at Loftus Road, with former Millwall boss Kenny Jackett and former West Brom sporting and technical director Luke Dowling also touted as possible candidates.

Gallen joined the Addicks in 2017 as the club’s head of recruitment before he was then announced as the new director of football in 2020.

The 49-year-old was previously employed by QPR for close to two decades, taking charge of the academy and managing the first team on one occasion as a caretaker – a 2-2 draw at West Brom in 2009.

Jackett, 61, is currently the director of football at League Two side Gillingham.

Dowling, 45, is out of work after leaving West Brom.
