Charlton Athletic confirm defender contract extension

Charlton Athletic have confirmed that Terell Thomas has signed a new contract with the club.

We reported earlier in the week that the defender had agreed terms on a new deal at The Valley.

The Rainham-born player made 18 appearances in total last season for the Addicks and scored in the 4-4 draw against Ipswich Town in November.

Thomas also has five Saint Lucia appearances to his name and recently captained his country in the CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifiers.

After putting pen-to-paper on a new one-year deal, the 27-year-old said: “I’m really happy to be staying here. I said to myself from the get-go that I wanted to play for Charlton Athletic and succeed.

“That was one of the things that I saw myself doing when I was here growing up and it’s still part of my plan in my football career. I’ve now got the opportunity to do something great with the club this season.”

Manager Dean Holden added: “Terell really impressed me at the end of last season both as a player and as a character. It’s no secret that he nearly left the club in January and I thought he responded perfectly. He got his head down, worked hard in training, got his opportunity and then demonstrated his qualities both as a left-back and a centre-half.

“The culture in the squad is going to be so important for us this season, which is why I am pleased we have been able to re-sign Terell. He has great character, ability and versatility.”
