Former Palace forward leaves League One coaching role

Former Crystal Palace forward Aaron Wilbraham has left his assistant managerial role at Shrewsbury Town by mutual consent.

The ex-Bolton and Bristol City striker joined the club under previous manager Steve Cotterill in December 2020 – it was his first coaching role after retiring from football.

Cotterill left the Shrews – who finished 12th last season in League One – this summer. 

Wilbraham worked with two youngsters on loan from Crystal Palace last season, with Rob Street spending the season with the club, and Irish midfielder Killian Phillips joining in the January window.

The 43-year-old made 33 appearances during his time at Selhurst Park, scoring twice and starting the play-off final win against Watford.

A statement on Shresbury’s website said: “Everyone at Shrewsbury Town thanks Alby for his commitment and service over the last two-and-a-half years and wishes him all the very best for the future.”
