Schools football: Streatham’s St Andrews Primary win 2023 Magazine Cup final

Streatham’s St Andrew’s Primary School recently won the South London Schools U11 2023 Magazine Cup final.

They beat West Norwood’s Julian’s Primary School at Rosendale Road playing fields, writes Gary Cornforth.

Miki Hirsig opened the scoring for Julian’s in the first half but St Andrew’s dominated the second half with goals from Dawid Kazek, Claudius Kapusta and Marcel Gondek sealing a 3-1 victory – adding to their Lambeth & Southwark Primary Schools Football A Division Championship already in the bag.

The South London Schools FA (SLSFA) was founded in 1885, making it one of the oldest schools football associations in the world. Lambeth & Southwark Primary Schools Football (L&SPSF) is pleased to be affiliated to such an historic football institution.

The SLSFA runs representative schools teams from U11, which is the L&SPSF age group, up to U19s.

SLSFA has had plenty of success at U11 level in recent years, winning the Finch Trophy (three times), the Kay Trophy (twice) and an international seven-a-side competition in France (four times) with the bulk of the team provided by L&SPSF schools.

The Magazine Cup was inaugurated in 1925 by the SLSFA and was so named because the silver cup was provided by a local sports magazine. The original trophy is still awarded to the winning school and is now in the possession of St Andrew’s.
