Millwall manager Harris reacts to Nelson’s Tranmere loan – and explains how time ran out for Swindon return

Millwall manager Neil Harris reckons Sid Nelson has made the right choice joining Tranmere Rovers on loan.

The 23-year-old centre-back spent the first half of the campaign with Swindon Town.

But the Robins could not agree a permanent deal for Nelson, whose contract is due to expire in the summer.

Swindon’s manager Richie Wellens has admitted that the centre-back will remain a target.

“We’ll re-visit him in the summer,” he told the Swindon Advertiser. “I’ve made no secret of the fact I like him as a lad – his improvement in the six or seven games that he played for me was very good.”
Nelson missed out on a Tranmere debut on Saturday as their game at Port Vale was called off.

“Sid had an excellent loan spell down at Swindon,” said Harris. “I saw him a few times myself and he thoroughly enjoyed himself.

“I thought a deal might have happened in January at Swindon but it didn’t materialise for various reasons.

“There had been a lot of toing and froing with Swindon in the last few weeks and it got to the stage where we couldn’t wait any longer.

“There were a lot of clubs who wanted to take Sid on because of how he did in the first half of the season. It was a great position to be in, being able to cherry pick where Sid would go.

“Tranmere are a big team in that division [League Two] and are pushing for the play-offs. It’s a good move for him. Working with Micky Mellon and Michael Jackson will be really beneficial. It’s a change of location, which is character-building as he is away from home.”
