Former Wimbledon versatile midfielder completes League Two switch

Former AFC Wimbledon midfielder Shane McLoughlin has joined League Two rivals Newport County from Salford City.

Ex-Bromley loanee McLoughlin made 81 appearances during his time with the Dons before being released at the end of the 2020-21 season.

McLoughlin – who has been capped by Ireland at youth level – had a spell at Morecambe after leaving Wimbledon.

The 26-year-old has signed a two-year deal at Rodney Parade.

Manager Graham Coughlan said: “Shane is a great footballer and will bring good experience and expertise in that area of the pitch.”

He added: “We’re looking forward to working with him as he shares the same hunger and desire as the rest of the squad.”
