Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer admits there is a free agent striker in their sights

Lee Bowyer has admitted there is a free agent player he is interested in signing – and their recent release could make a deal slightly easier to do.

The Addicks manager told the South London Press earlier this week that he and head of recruitment Steve Gallen were trawling through the unattached market to see if they could boost their frontline options.

Charlton sold Karlan Grant to Huddersfield at the end of January and saw attempts to sign Mo Eisa and Erhun Oztumer on loan fall through.

Asked about free agents, Bowyer said: “There’s one that we were trying to get anyway, but I think the lad is just weighing up options at the moment.

“I’m not 100 per cent sure if he’ll come.

“There are not many out there, otherwise we’d have brought them in before. But this lad was at a club and now he has been released, paid off.

“Now he has become more available. He was out of our price-range before, now he might be in it.

“He’s a good player. I don’t know if he is going to come.”
