Running until August Summer Exhibition 2023 at the Royal Academy of Arts
Art overflowing into the streets of Piccadilly, drinks with friends, finding the perfect painting and even taking it home — it’s the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy.
Run since 1769 in Burlington House, Piccadilly, the Summer Exhibition is an annual celebration of art and artists.
This exhibition is a place where amateurs rub shoulders with megastars, where up and coming artists have their work hung next to the likes of Tracey Emin.
This year, renowned British painter David Remfry is exhibition co-ordinator.
Mr Remfry’s Summer Exhibition will run until August 20, exploring the theme Only Connect, taken from the famous quote in Howards End by EM Forster.
Among the 1,614 featured works you will find towering sculptures by the late Phyllida Barlow, Richard Malone’s dramatic mobile installation in the Wohl Central Hall, and a witty painting by comedian Joe Lycett, as well as pieces by Tracey Emin, Hew Locke, Barbara Walker, Gavin Turk, Lindsey Mendick, Caroline Walker and many more.
Most of the works are available to buy, and sales from the exhibition support the exhibiting artists and training the next generation of artists in the Royal Academy Schools.
The bar is open weekly, Friday – Sunday.
