Charlton confirm Burton midfielder on three-year deal

Charlton Athletic have confirmed the signing of Terry Taylor from Burton Albion.

The Addicks announced the deal was an undisclosed fee, however, our paper understands Charlton have shelled out a fee in the region of £150,000 for the midfielder.

He becomes Charlton’s sixth summer signing following the arrivals of Harry Isted, Lloyd Jones, Alfie May, Panutche Camara and Tayo Edun.

Taylor, 22, started off on Aberdeen’s books before signing for Wolves at U18 level in 2019.

He has been capped at youth level by both Scotland and Wales, scoring two goals in 11 appearances for the latter’s U21 team.

Taylor had a loan at Grimsby Town before joining the Brewers in February 2021.

He has penned a three-year deal at The Valley.

After putting pen to paper, he said: “It feels amazing. Having a look at the ground, meeting everyone at the training ground, it feels really good so I can’t wait to get going. I think the big thing that sticks out to me was the ambition, his [Dean Holden’s] plan and how he plans to execute it this season and just where the club is headed, in the general direction, I think there’s a really good feel to it.”

Manager Dean Holden is excited at the prospect of working with Taylor. He explained: “Terry is a fantastic young talent and we’re really pleased he has chosen to join Charlton with plenty of interest from other clubs. He’s got a good eye for a pass and is an excellent set-piece taker. He is really good off the ball in terms of his mobility around the pitch, his pressing and his ability to win the ball back. I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Taylor’s arrival follows the addition of Edun on Tuesday. Technical Director Andy Scott added: “The signing of Terry is another example of the club’s recruitment strategy this summer – ambitious, young, talented players who want to come and play for Charlton and be successful. He is a player we identified with real potential and excellent character. He has impressed playing plenty of games in League One and, given his age and ability, has the potential to develop into a Championship player.”
