Town hall should hold consulations on CPZs
The compulsory arrangements for the borough-wide controlled parking zones, CPZs are being rolled out without consultation.
Southwark claim that they didn’t need to consult Borough wide because they made the situation clear in their manifestos.
However in neither the 2018 and the recent 2022 versions is there any mention of this borough-wide scheme or CP’s at all, but they are ploughing on without a mandate.
There is wide opposition for imposing controlling parking in areas of the borough, such as Dulwich Hill and Peckham, where a problem does not exist.
The imposition of a CPZ is seen as yet another tax, adding to the burden of the cost of living and inflation at a time when most households are squeezed.
Southwark council, surprisingly, has given little thought to the social implications of this roll-out.
The elderly will be particularly affected.
Many pensioners use their cars in the evenings because they don’t feel safe on public transport at night.
In addition, the extra cost of parking for family and friends who visit and check up on their elderly relatives will add a big financial extra cost to those on a pension. there are many other examples of the burden of imposing this scheme.
The council are falling short of fulfilling the principles of democracy.
They are just not listening to their ratepayers and they need to be stopped.
