AFC Wimbledon end pre-season without defeat after 2-0 win at National League Wealdstone
AFC Wimbledon ended their 2023-24 pre-season campaign without defeat after a 2-0 win over National League side Wealdstone at The Vale on Saturday afternoon.
The Dons took the lead after seven minutes when Jack Currie collected a pass from Josh Neufville down the left-hand flank and crossed for Omar Bugiel to score his first goal since arriving on a free transfer from Sutton, heading beyond Jed Ward.
Captain Jake Reeves went close to doubling the lead in quick succession – firing a free-kick just over Ward’s crossbar and then sending a Jack Currie cutback high and wide.
Former Stockport defender Ryan Johnson then headed just wide from a James Tilley corner.
Giovanni McGreggor almost brought the hosts level before half-time, sending a free-kick inches over Alex Bass’ goal.
Johnnie Jackson’s side eventually scored their second of the afternoon with just under 20 minutes remaining when substitute Ali Al-Hamadi latched onto the ball in a goalmouth scramble to turn a shot past Ward.
Wimbledon only conceded once during pre-season.
