AFC Wimbledon boss: New signings have been dropped in the League One deep end

Dons manager Wally Downes said his new signings have been thrown in at the deep end and would have to learn quickly – particularly after Saturday’s poor show against Burton.
The 2-0 defeat at the Cherry Red Records Stadium saw Michael Folivi come off the bench for his Wimbledon debut.
“[It was a] difficult game for the boy to go in,” said Downes, when discussing the on-loan Watford striker.
“He showed a couple of flashes of ability but unfortunately it wasn’t the performance that you’d want to throw a kid in [for]. He’s got some experience from today and [there is] certainly no blame attached to him.”
And the Wimbledon manager said he was confident League of Ireland signing Dylan Connolly will recapture the form that excited fans upon his arrival.

“He’s done well,” said Downes. “Perhaps it’s catching up with him a little bit, he’s had three or four games where he’s looked bright and everyone’s looking towards him, but when you sign players from non-league, that first four or five weeks it’s all new to them and they’re buzzing and then they taper off and get used to finding their feet.
“He’s an asset, Dylan, we can’t use him sparingly, but he’s a prospect.”
