100 firefighters tackle huge blaze at waste disposal site
Fifteen fire engines were needed to tackle a huge blaze at a waste disposal warehouse and offices on Friday.
About 100 firefighters were called to the fire in Imperial Way, Croydon.
The brigade’s control room received 11 calls reporting the blaze by concerned residents and people in the area.
A large amount of waste materials were on fire, and residents in the area were advised to shut their windows and doors to keep the smoke out.
The brigade was called at around 9.45pm and the fire was under control by around 4.45am, but firefighters stayed at the scene for several more hours to dampen down the area.
Fire crews from Croydon, Norbury, Woodside and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) has said the cause of the fire will be investigated.
