Streatham boxer Chris Bourke delighted at ticket sales and second win in pro ranks
richard@slpmedia.co.uk Chris Bourke was happy with his performance as he chalked up a second win in the professional ranks at the start of this month.
The Streatham super-bantamweight halted Jake Pollard (0-3) at Bethnal Green’s York Hall on February 2.
Bourke has two victories, both inside the distance, since making his debut in December.
And the South Londoner sold 100 tickets for the show.
“The atmosphere was brilliant,” said Bourke. “It was nice to have that support. I prefer it way more – in the amateurs you don’t have to sell tickets.
“It was also the first time I’d boxed at York Hall. The atmosphere helps you to perform.
“I felt a little bit tense in the first round – he was coming in with his head quite a bit and he was awkward.
“But after the first round nerves went I started finding my distance, because he was shorter than me. I was keeping it long with my punches – the first knockdown was a body shot at the end of the second round, the bell saved him.
“The second knockdown was a head shot and although he got up at about eight the ref stopped it.”
Bourke, managed and trained by Martin Bowers, is hoping to have bout number three next month.
And he has re-iterated that he is in no rush to try and secure a deal with one of the big promoters.
“I’m happy enough to go along as I am until I’ve had six fights and then I’ll try and find someone,” said Bourke. “I quite like the idea of being a free agent, being able to box where I want.”
