‘I will be lucky’ – Newport County boss makes squad admission ahead of Charlton EFL Cup clash
Newport County manager Graham Coughlan has admitted he may struggle to fill his matchday squad for tomorrow’s first round EFL Cup clash against Charlton Athletic.
The Addicks, who reached the quarter-finals of this competition last season, head to Wales on the back of a 1-0 victory over Leyton Orient in League One.
Newport suffered a 3-0 defeat to Accrington Stanley on the opening day of the League Two campaign.
“I don’t even think we have the 18, to be honest,” said Coughlan, as quoted by the South Wales Argus.
“If I can fill a teamsheet, I will be lucky.
“That is what I am going to have to do over the next 48 hours, try and get 18 names on the teamsheet.
“There are a couple of walking wounded and the lads will have to recharge, regroup, and go again on Tuesday.”
