Aleks Tihomirova performs at Gerry’s with her band on August 19

Aleks Tihomirova has been singing since she was eight years old.

She grew up performing in the Youth Opera Company and by 15 she was writing her own music.

Despite her investment in music throughout her early life, Ms Tihomirova, 24, has only taken it on as a full-time profession since February when she quit her job in the Ain’t Nothin But the Blues Bar, in Soho.

Ms Tihomirova said: “It has been a crazy and quick journey from only playing one gig a month when working a full time job, to four times a week and it has been an amazing journey.

“I love how music makes people feel, I love that during my sets I can connect to the audience with something heartfelt and powerful and then later get them dancing and singing their hearts out.

“It has been a long time dream to be a live singer and every time when I’m on stage I feel like fear of life can’t get me, I’m still getting used to believing that I belong on the stage.”

She said: “How many people can say they are truly doing what they love most in life?

“We live in a world where fear controls a lot of what we decide to do in life, it almost feels like it’s been embedded in us since we were born.

“I’ve been lucky enough to have a wonderful mum that has always fought the constraints of society, she taught me that the most important thing is to live life how you want it and to not be afraid of going wherever your heart decides.”

Ms Tihomirova explained her favourite live music venue to perform at is Gerry’s in Dean Street, Soho.

A makeshift dance floor fills most nights at Gerry’s and there is always live music.

There is cheap wine, bottles of beer, whisky and a lovely laid back feeling that is so hard to find.

Ms Tihomirova said: “Gerry’s was the band’s first gig that started getting us more gigs around the area.

“Because of the music we play, we appeal to almost every audience member, we start of a slow for the quieter crowd and then when it gets later it turns into a rock concert.”

The singer said her dream is to perform in Hyde Park or Wembley, but most of all “to bring music to people that feels like they can do whatever they want to do in life.”

Aleks Tihomirova will be back at Gerry’s with her band on August 19.
