Cyclist hit by fire engine responding to emergency call
A man has been taken to hospital suffering from a head injury after he was hit by a fire engine, as firefighters tried to get to the scene of an emergency this morning.
The London Ambulance Service (LAS) was first called to the scene at around 11.45am to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction between Atlantic Road and Coldharbour Lane, in Brixton.
The Met was called shortly after, when officers arrived at the scene they found the cyclist – a man in his 50s – had been hit by the fire engine and was suffering from a head injury.
A spokesman from the LAS said: “We sent multiple resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer and a medic in a fast response car.
“Our first medics arrived in around four minutes. We treated a man at the scene for injuries before taking him to hospital as a priority.”
The Met have said they are waiting for an update on the mans’ condition.
A spokesman from the Met said: “There were no other reported injuries and no arrests. Road closures and cordons remain in place at this time.
“Anyone who witnessed this incident or has dash-cam footage should call police on 101 or Tweet @MetCC quoting 2990/23AUG.”
A spokesman from the London Fire Brigade said: “The fire engine was responding to an emergency call at the time of the incident.
“The circumstances surrounding the collision are under investigation.”
