Charlton Athletic take Wolves attacker on loan for 2023-24 League One season

Charlton Athletic have signed Wolves’ attacker Chem Campbell on loan.

The 20-year-old had a temporary spell with League One rivals Wycombe Wanderers in the second half of last season, scoring three goals in 17 appearances.

Birmingham-born Campbell played both on the left and right wing for the Chairboys.

He has also played eight senior matches for his parent club, six of those in the Premier League.

Charlton technical director Andy Scott said: “He is a player I have seen a lot of recently and going back a number of years. I remember seeing him for Wolves in a game against PSG and was really impressed with him, so I’ve kept an eye on him.

“He is direct, he has got good physicality and good ball carrying skills. He is an attacking threat that can assist, create and score goals.

“He is another young, ambitious player, who has had a number of clubs after him but after speaking to Dean and understanding where he was going to be playing, how we play, the chances we create and the opportunities he will get, he was very keen to come.”

Addicks boss Dean Holden said: “Chem is an exciting young attacker, who can play across the forward line.

“He has plenty of pace and the ability to beat a player and made good progress last season playing games in the Premier League for Wolves, along with a positive loan at Wycombe Wanderers. He is a good finisher who can create and score goals. He will add a lot of quality to our front line.”

Campbell is the second youngest player to represent Wolves. He was 16 when he debuted against Aston Villa in the League Cup.
