Children’s books donated to Peter Hills Primary School marking International Book Giving Day

A school was the welcome recipient of children books to mark International Book Giving Day, which was yesterday.

British Land and the National Literacy Trust donated the books to Peter Hills Primary School, in Beatson Walk, Rotherhithe.

International Book Giving Day is about getting books into the hands of as many children as possible.

It has continued to grow since it began in 2012 and is now celebrated by people in more than 44 countries.

It’s believed that book giving and ensuring that youngsters have access to quality books is hugely important to child development and well-being.

The book donation is part of a 100,000 total book donation during a seven-year partnership between the National Literacy Trust and British Land, who have established a Young Readers Programme, that has to date, encouraged more than 35,000 children under the age of 11 to read for fun in their spare time.
