Man taken to hospital as 40 firefighter tackle flat fire

A man was taken to hospital last night as firefighters tackled a fire in a flat.

Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters worked to control the fire at a flat in Solon New Road in Clapham.

The fire tore through most of a flat on the 11th floor of a 15-storey residential building.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) reported that one man was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews suffering from smoke inhalation.

The brigade was called at around 8pm and the fire was brought under control by around 9pm. 

The brigade’s 999 control officers received 29 calls about the fire.

Crews from Clapham, Brixton, Battersea, Lambeth and Tooting fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Met.
