Millwall boss responds to question over late transfer window move for Bournemouth striker Moore

Millwall manager Gary Rowett says that the Championship side were “aggressive” in trying to make one final late signing before Friday’s transfer deadline.

The Lions added two players on the last day of trading as they brought in Allan Campbell and Ryan Longman on loan from Luton Town and Hull City.

But Millwall were also open to a temporary deal for AFC Bournemouth striker Kieffer Moore.

Moore has previously been a target for the SE16 outfit. The 31-year-old Wales international was also linked at the end of the transfer window with Norwich and Cardiff.

“I won’t go into names but we tried to make a signing late on and, for different reasons, it didn’t quite happen,” Rowett told the South London Press. “We were quite aggressive in trying to do it.

“James (Berylson, Millwall chairman) backed us to try and add an extra player who we felt could make a bit of a difference.

“In windows you have to have that flexibility. If there is a player out there that maybe is not necessarily someone you need position-wise but feel they could add something a little bit different from what you’ve got then you have to always be in the market for those kind of game-changing signings.

“It didn’t happen but we tried – that’s all you can do.”
