Palace boss Roy Hodgson asked about Jesurun Rak-Sakyi’s late substitute appearance in Fulham draw

Roy Hodgson admitted he did not consider bringing on Jesurun Rak-Sakyi earlier in Crystal Palace’s goalless draw at home to Fulham on Saturday.

The 20-year-old replaced Odsonne Edouard, who suffered a hamstring problem, in the 88th minute at Selhurst Park.

All three of Rak-Sakyi’s Premier League appearances this season have come from the bench.

The Southwark-born winger scored 15 goals and picked up eight assists on loan at Charlton in League One last season.

“No we didn’t,” said Hodgson, when asked if he thought about bringing the youngster on earlier.

“He might well be ready, but in different games.

“This wasn’t the game, that we believed, that taking Ebere Eze or Jordan Ayew off, that we would become stronger or have more chance of winning the game.

“There might be matches when that happens.

“And he did okay when he came on. We’re very pleased with his progression. We think he’s improving and becoming more and more au fait with what’s required of him.

“But today, unfortunately, wasn’t the right time.

“The only change we could seriously win, which might have made a difference, was going to 4-4-2 and bringing Mateta on, and that’s what we did.”
