Millwall boss ‘very happy’ not to see Jed Wallace in West Brom’s starting line up

Gary Rowett has admitted he was happy to see Jed Wallace and John Swift not start against Millwall yesterday.
Swift had scored in his three previous home games but started on the bench against the Lions with it being the third game of the week – two of which have been away from home.
Meanwhile, Wallace who scored 42 goals in 260 appearances for the South London club, was also named on the bench as Baggies boss Carlos Corberan made six changes to the side that drew 2-2 at Watford in midweek. The 29-year-old, who was appointed as club captain by Coberan in the summer was introduced in the 77th minute of the game.
When asked about his thoughts on the decision to name both players on the bench Rowett said: “I’ll be really honest – I was quite pleased Jed didn’t play, just because I know what he can do.
“But I don’t decide what West Brom do or what they play – but there will be reasons behind Carlos not playing someone like Jed and Swift.
“I’d imagine it’s to freshen it up and to do that in a week like this maybe stops them getting injuries. We haven’t freshened it up very much and we end up picking one up. We all know the quality Jed’s got – so to see him only come on at 75 minutes, or whatever it was, I was certainly very happy.”
