Man charged with homophobic attack

A man has been charged with committing a homophobic attack in Brixton.

Jabbard Mabounda, 31, of Crosby Walk, Brixton, will appear in custody at Croydon Magistrates’ Court today.

Mr Mabounda has been charged with one count of racially or religiously aggravated actual bodily harm and two counts of racially or religiously aggravated assault by beating.

The charges relate to an incident in Brixton Road, Brixton, at around 10.30pm on August 19.

Two men were standing at a bus stop when they were assaulted by another man.

Both victims went to hospital for treatment of their injuries before being discharged.

Both men are being supported by a dedicated LGBTQ+ community officer whose role is to support individuals who have been involved in hate crimes towards the LGBTQ+ community.
