Visit the Hayward Gallery and take a look at Heecheon Kim’s work

An exhibition with an absurdist viewpoint that embraces but questions our obsession and trust in advanced technologies in coming to the Southbank Centre.

The Hayward Gallery will present the first UK exhibition of South Korean artist and film-maker Heecheon Kim from December 1 in the gallery’s HENI Project Space.

Heecheon Kim: Double Poser is a free exhibition by the artist who was awarded the 2023 Hermès Foundation Missulsang Art Prize, which cemented his status as one of the leading emerging artistic voices in Korea.

Kim’s practice explores how technology affects our perception of society, his work considers how the banality of daily life is represented in digital space.

In his video works, Kim manipulates filmed and found footage in ways that challenge the typical way we process visual and sensory information, using technology such as GPS, augmented reality, virtual reality and face-swap applications.

Kim deploys techniques of looping and repetition to create ambiguous and, at times, absurd narratives.

For his new commission at the Hayward Gallery, Kim reinterprets components from his previous work Cutter III, and takes inspiration from the brutalist architecture of the Hayward Gallery.

The work brings together elements of computer-generated imagery, video game aesthetics and skateboarding culture.

Heecheon Kim said: “Living and working in Seoul, I am very much looking forward to knowing about the new audiences in London and having conversations with them.”

Visit the Hayward Gallery from December 1 to January 7, to take a look at Heecheon Kim’s works.
