‘A job well done’ – Fulham boss Silva on win over Sheffield United and Diop injury setback

Marco Silva was pleased that Fulham got back to winning ways with a deserved 3-1 victory against Sheffield United at Craven Cottage.

A Wes Foderingham own goal and a late Willian strike earned the Whites their first Premier League win in three matches after an Antonee Robinson own goal had cancelled out Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s 53rd-minute opener.

The victory is Silva’s 50^th in the Premier League across spells at Watford, Everton and Fulham and he saw plenty of positives as his side saw off the Blades.

“Job done and well done,” was the assessment of the Fulham head coach. “It was an important win for us.

“We analysed them (Sheffield United) in some of their away games and they have been tough to beat.

“In the first half we created a good number of chances and didn’t score but the players kept believing in the plan. After we scored in the second half, we deserved the three points.

“I am much happier this afternoon because we are creating more [chances to score].”

Fulham were the dominant side throughout against the club that are bottom of the Premier League, earning their third win of the season.

The victory was in doubt midway through the second half when Issa Diop went down injured, allowing Sheffield United to break away and equalise through Robinson’s own goal.

It was a rare lapse in an otherwise controlled Fulham display, and was something that Silva does not want to see repeated.

“We have to learn,” he said. “In the moment when Issa went down, it was an unlucky moment but we should have done much better in that situation.

“We didn’t let them create anything until that moment, but the reaction was good.”

Silva revealed that Diop felt a “crack in his foot” that caused him to fall to the floor and added that the injury “doesn’t look good”.
