Luka Milivojevic dedicates his latest penalty to Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson
Luka Milivojevic spoke of his pride for manager Roy Hodgson as he became the oldest Premier League boss – the former England chief marking it with a counter-attacking masterclass which saw Crystal Palace earn a comprehensive 4-1 win at Leicester City.
The Eagles were dreadful in the opening 45 minutes, with their hosts dominating possession but largely failing to make anything of it. Yet they somehow found themselves ahead through Michy Batshuayi’s effort, before going on to tear through the Foxes in the final 20 minutes with three goals, including a Milivojevic’s penalty.
“I think it’s very hard [managing at 71-years-old],” said the Palace captain. “We are very proud to have Roy Hodgson with us. I told him after the game that I dedicate my goal to him because I think he deserves that.
“We are so happy and so proud to have him with us, we can learn a lot from him. He’s the most intelligent manager in my career and all credit to him. We’re going to continue to fight for him because he deserves it.”
Milivojevic’s penalty was his 15th spot-kick conversion in Palace colours since joining in January 2017, and he explained how he revels in the confidence each one provides.
“When you start scoring penalties, you get more confidence, more experience, you are calmer,” he told Palace TV. “I just try to focus, to be very concentrated and to put the ball where I want. It’s not easy, especially in the last 10 or 15 minutes of the game when you become tired.
“I think I shot well. It was a difficult moment because if you miss in that moment, it’s 2-1. If you miss, the game changes but that goal killed the game and in the end, we scored four.
“It’s a very good feeling, of course, after beating Leicester 4-1. The first half in my opinion was not good enough from our side but we had a result.
“In the changing room we tried to respect the scoreline and to change the game. We made one tactical change in the second half that gave us a lot of confidence and in the end, we are so happy.”
